Build A Ring Farm Progression Guide
Progress from basic seed farming into mutation timing and ring optimization without wasting boosts, overbuying too early, or delaying harvests for weak event windows.
STAGE 1 Early Game Progression
When you first join Build A Ring Farm, your only ring is the Base Ring (7x multiplier) and your available crops are limited to Common seeds like Carrot and Pumpkin. Your immediate priority is establishing a reliable income cycle: plant, wait for growth, harvest, and sell. Carrot seeds have a base price of $3 at Level 1, so each harvest unit sells for $21 with the Base Ring before any mutations.
During this phase, do not worry about mutations or events. Focus on understanding the grow-harvest cycle and accumulating enough cash to start expanding your farm. Redeem all active codes immediately — the free Seed Packs and items from codes like UPDATE2 and THANKYOU provide early boosts that can save hours of grinding. The Getting Started guide covers the basics in more detail.
STAGE 2 Early Expansion — Better Seeds
Once your farm generates consistent income, start targeting Uncommon seeds like Wheat, Melon, and Onion. These have lower roll chances (1 in 32 to 1 in 85) but higher base value than Common seeds. Your goal is to diversify your crop selection so you are not dependent on a single seed type for income.
At this stage, you should also begin paying attention to events. Rain events happen 40% of the time and apply the Wet mutation at 8% per roll. While Wet is only a 1.5x multiplier, it provides a noticeable income boost that compounds over many harvest cycles. If you see a Rain event active, harvest immediately rather than waiting for a better event.
Start tracking your income per harvest cycle. Use the profit calculator with your current seed level and ring tier to establish a baseline, then compare against upgraded setups to identify which investment gives the best return.
STAGE 3 Mid Game Progression
The transition to mid-game happens when you consistently roll Rare seeds (Blueberry, Cabbage, Grape, Bamboo, Peach) and begin accumulating enough cash to consider the Middle Ring upgrade (13x). The Middle Ring is a major income milestone — it increases your base multiplier by 85.7% over the Base Ring, which applies to every single harvest permanently.
Prioritize the Middle Ring upgrade over other investments at this stage. The permanent 13x multiplier affects all seeds, all mutations, and all future harvests. Once you have the Middle Ring, your income from the same seeds roughly doubles, accelerating every subsequent purchase.
Mid-game is also when you should start planning around event timing. Blizzard (20% chance, Frozen 1.75x) and Black Hole (12% chance, Void 2.25x) events are frequent enough to wait for if your crops are ready to harvest. The difference between selling during a Rain event and selling during a Black Hole event is significant at this stage — 1.5x versus 2.25x on a farm full of Rare seeds with the Middle Ring.
STAGE 4 Late Game Progression
Epic seeds (Corn, Plum, Cauliflower, Nectarine, Sunflower, Citrus) and Legendary seeds (Spring Onion, Mango, Mushroom, Banana) represent a significant step up in rarity and potential value. Roll chances drop to 1 in 569 for Epic and 1 in 3,202 for Legendary, making each successful roll feel rewarding.
At this stage, you should be actively leveling your saw. The saw bonus formula — floor(SawLevel × 2 / 3) — adds scaling to both unit count and final price through the (1 + SawBonus / 7) multiplier. At Saw Level 20, this adds approximately 185.7% to your calculation. Combined with the Middle Ring and high-tier mutations, saw scaling is one of the most efficient late-game investments.
Nuclear events (7% chance, Radioactive 3x) and Galaxy events (4% chance, Rainbow 5x) become your primary income windows. When a Galaxy event activates, harvest your highest-level seeds immediately — the 5x Rainbow multiplier on top of your Middle Ring (13x) and saw bonus creates massive income spikes. The Mutations Deep Dive covers strategies for maximizing mutation value.
STAGE 5 End Game Ring and Mutation Optimization
The endgame revolves around the Outer Ring (19x), Secret and above seeds, and maximizing every variable in the profit formula. With the Outer Ring, a Saw Level 20, and a Rainbow mutation during a Galaxy event, your income multiplier stack reaches extraordinary levels. The calculator becomes essential for testing different combinations and finding the exact setup that maximizes your per-harvest income.
Secret seeds (Strawberry, Glowshroom, Beanstalk, Tomato, Starfruit) and higher tiers become your primary rolling targets. These seeds have extremely low roll chances — Starfruit at 1 in 51,229, Apple at 1 in 128,072 — but their base values scale dramatically with level. A high-level Secret seed with the Outer Ring and a strong mutation can generate more income per plant than an entire early-game farm.
The final optimization layer is timing your harvests around the rarest events. Bee Swarm events with the Honeycomb mutation (6.5x) are the ultimate income window. If you have a full farm of high-level Secret+ seeds with the Outer Ring active and a Honeycomb mutation lands, that single harvest can eclipse dozens of normal cycles. The Rings Deep Dive covers advanced ring optimization strategies.
Progression Tips
- Focus on consistency before optimization; a field that keeps selling beats a field waiting forever for a perfect event.
- Upgrade systems gradually; seed value, ring tier, saw level, and mutation timing multiply each other.
- Do not over-invest early; use codes and boosts only when they improve an active field.
- Test layouts before scaling large farms; a ring or mutation change should be checked in the calculator first.

Progression FAQ
What should I spend my first $10,000 on?
Expand your farm with more plant slots first. More plants means more harvest units per cycle, which compounds with every multiplier you acquire later. The income increase from additional plants is immediate and permanent.
Should I upgrade my ring or my saw first?
In most cases, prioritize the ring upgrade first because it provides a larger flat multiplier increase. The saw bonus scales gradually, while the ring upgrade (7x to 13x) is an immediate 85.7% jump. Once you have the Middle Ring, invest in saw levels.
When should I start saving for the Outer Ring?
Start planning for the Outer Ring once you have Epic or Legendary seeds producing consistent income. The Outer Ring is a large investment, and purchasing it too early slows your seed progression. The ideal timing depends on your specific farm setup — use the calculator to compare your current income against the Outer Ring cost.
Is it worth pursuing Secret and Prismatic seeds?
Secret seeds have roll chances starting at 1 in 12,807, and Prismatic seeds go as low as 1 in 256,144. These are long-term targets that reward persistence. Once you have the Outer Ring and high saw levels, each successful Secret+ roll provides significant value due to the multiplier stack.
